Members of MSiA joined their fellow SUNY Empire State College students for the 2015 Student Academic Conference. The conference was packed with great presentations and activities.
MSiA board members Layla Abdullah-Poulos, Melinda Wills-Stallings, and Robert Barton attended the kick-off for the inaugural class of the SUNY Empire State College Leadership Institute. Director of Student Services, Patricia Myers provided student leaders with words of encouragement and advice for developing their leadership skills.
Presentations at this year’s conference included academic tracks on social justice, student leadership, and student wellness. MSiA president, Layla Abdullah-Poulos presented “Native-Born American Muslims and Racism: Confronting Intra-cultural Discrimination in Muslim Communities, collegewide career development coordinator, Anita De Cianni Brown presented “Developing Your Personal Brand”, and ESC mentor, Colleen Kobel Reedy presented “Enhancing Your Professional Presence”. All of the conference’s presentations were vibrantly attended.
This year, the StAC Town Hall was especially interesting as Provost Dr. Alfred Ntoko, Vice Provost Dr. Tom Mackey and Vice President of Enrollment Management Dr. Clayton Steen fielded questions from students. The esteemed members of the college administration offered valuable information, words of encouragement, and made students excited about the present restructuring of SUNY Empire State College.
Organizers of the SUNY Empire State College Student Academic Conference provided students with another spectacular two days of learning and networking. As students said their goodbyes, they were already talking about seeing each other again at the Student Wellness Retreat this April 14th to 16th!
Thank you, Patricia Myers, Danielle Boardman, Andy Binder, Casey Kohler, and the StAC Planning Committee for another great conference!
