Baraka Corley is the Outreach and Recruitment Specialist at SUNY Empire State College, Long Island Region. He has worked in higher education administration for 13 years and has an extensive background in non-traditional student populations, summer bridge programs, admissions and enrollment management, academic advisement, educational opportunity program administration, outreach, recruitment, retention, and mentoring. He is actively involved in mentoring and consultation for at-risk students in higher educational opportunity programs.
Mr. Corley earned a B.A. in Psychology from Hofstra University. He is currently a student in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program at SUNY Empire State College. His research interests include African American Male Student Success in Higher Education, African American Male Advanced Degree Attainment, Institutional Diversity, Leadership, and Motivation.

The book consists of 8 Leadership Lessons gained through the author’s riveting and sometimes heart-wrenching life experiences. The author encourages the reader to reflect on his/her own experiences and to learn from all of them. This book exemplifies how this learning has taken place in the author’s life. It validated the author’s experiences — right or wrong, triumphant or painful, and shows that in the end… leaders over-come and come out as a winners.
